About the Provider
Greetings to all who have found me in this vast world of space and knowledge. My name is Julia.
I’ve shared two versions of my biography because I believe there are always two stories to every individual: the story that created them and the story that motivated them.
The professional version of my story includes the expected components—years of education, clinical experience, and credentials in the field of psychiatry. But what I feel is more powerful, more captivating, is what motivated me to become who I am today.
I was raised in a primarily single-parent home, where I was taught to never rely on anyone—financially or emotionally. Like many raised in minority cultures, I learned early on that showing emotion could be seen as a sign of weakness. At 16, I became a mother, challenging cultural expectations and facing the complex realities of an emotionally and physically unhealthy relationship.
By all statistical measures, the odds were stacked against me. Society often places individuals like me into boxes—defined by our pasts, limited by our circumstances.
But my past didn’t limit me—it ignited me.
It gave me the inspiration to help others in the very areas where I once felt unseen, unheard, and unsupported. It opened my eyes to how people experiencing life’s hardest moments are often pushed aside, particularly in minority communities where mental health is still too often stigmatized or ignored.
What I saw—and what I lived—showed me the urgent need for empathetic, compassionate, and truly individualized mental health care. That’s why I’m here. That’s why I chose this path.
I want to be part of the revolution that is redefining the standards of psychiatric care.
My Professional Background
I have dedicated my career to the field of nursing for over sixteen years. Starting as a licensed professional nurse in 2009, I spent six years in acute care, gaining invaluable experience and insights into patient care. In 2016, I graduated from West Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s in Nursing Science, which allowed me to further my clinical expertise in emergency care.
Driven by a desire to enhance my qualifications, I returned to West Texas A&M University to pursue a Master’s in Nursing Science with a focus on becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. This advanced training prepared me to establish my own practice in a rural community, where I served a diverse and sizable patient population in the Panhandle of Texas. My commitment to delivering quality healthcare in underserved areas continues to shape my professional journey and impact the lives of those I serve.
During my time as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), the significant shortage of psychiatric healthcare providers became increasingly apparent. This shortage often necessitated that I take on the responsibilities typically associated with psychiatric care, providing support to patients facing mental health crises or instability. Recognizing the need for a more robust framework to effectively assist my mental health clients, I made the decision to pursue additional certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). This certification not only enhanced my clinical skills but also enabled me to deliver a higher level of care and support to those in need of mental health services. By expanding my qualifications, I aim to contribute more effectively to addressing the critical gaps in psychiatric care.I continue to serve the community I live in but I want to assist more clients on a broader platform.
Age Range
With my extensive background in family medicine, I am very comfortable treating a wide range of patients aged 5 and older. I strongly welcome and appreciate diversity in all its forms. I truly believe that we all learn and grow from each interaction we have with others, enriching our understanding and perspective on life and health.
Generalized anxiety disorders/panic disorders
Anxiety is a common occurrence experienced by many individuals who live with various mental health disorders. This pervasive condition can manifest in different levels of intensity, ranging from mild and manageable feelings of unease, to more moderate and distressing symptoms, and in some cases, it can escalate to severe anxiety that significantly impacts daily functioning and overall quality of life.
Major Depressive Disorder
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, it was reported that approximately 21 million American adults experienced at least one episode of depression during the year 2021. In the same calendar year, around 5 million adolescents also faced the challenges associated with depression. It is important to note that these figures are likely to be underestimated, as many individuals do not seek essential mental health treatment. This reluctance to pursue help can often be attributed to a lack of access to mental health services or the stigma that frequently surrounds the discussion of depression and its effects.
Trauma Related Disorders
Trauma-related disorders are complex mental health conditions that develop as a direct result of exposure to a traumatic or stress-inducing event. These disorders can manifest after individuals have had direct personal experiences, witnessed traumatic incidents, or even learned about traumatic events that have occurred to someone whom they are closely connected with or care about deeply.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder is a complex and chronic mood disorder characterized by significant fluctuations between elevated states, known as manic or hypomanic episodes, and contrasting depressive episodes. These pronounced mood shifts profoundly affect an individual's energy levels, overall activity levels, behavior, and general ability to function effectively in daily life.
Schizoaffective/schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a complex, chronic, and severe mental disorder that significantly affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves in their daily life. This condition is characterized by various distortions in reality, which can include both auditory and visual hallucinations, deeply held delusions, disorganized thinking, and noticeable impairment in overall functioning. As a result, individuals with schizophrenia may face considerable challenges in maintaining relationships, employment, and their overall quality of life.
Other Services
Compulsive disorders
Compulsive disorders are characterized by repetitive behaviors or mental acts that an individual feels an overwhelming urge to perform, frequently as a reaction to intrusive thoughts, commonly referred to as obsessions, or to alleviate anxiety. These compulsive behaviors are typically not enjoyable and can significantly interfere with one's daily functioning and overall quality of life.
Addiction Disorders
Addiction disorders, clinically referred to as Substance Use Disorders, are complex and chronic conditions that exhibit a pattern of relapsing behavior. These disorders are defined by an individual's compulsive use of substances or pornography, despite being fully aware of the harmful consequences that follow. They encompass a wide range of biological, psychological, social, and behavioral components, all of which contribute to the individual’s relationship with the substance in question. Understanding these multifaceted aspects is crucial in addressing and treating addiction effectively.
Learning Disorders
Learning Disabilities (LDs) are complex neurologically-based disorders that significantly interfere with a person's ability to effectively acquire, process, or express information, despite their average or even above-average intelligence. These challenges tend to be persistent and can profoundly affect not only academic achievement but also daily functioning in various aspects of life. Individuals with LDs often require specialized strategies and support to navigate their unique learning needs.

An initial evaluation serves as a comprehensive assessment of the factors that led an individual to pursue mental health support. During this session, I dedicate a full hour to thoroughly explore the patient's symptoms, medical and family histories, and any relevant past experiences or traumas. This detailed examination allows me to understand the complexities of the individual's situation and to formulate a tailored treatment plan that aligns with both the patient's needs and my professional guidance. Additionally, I integrate psychotherapy into this process, fostering a collaborative environment for healing and growth.

Building a professional yet supportive relationship with each client requires regular follow-up to evaluate treatment effectiveness. This includes checking on their progress in therapy and monitoring any changes needed in medication. In follow-up sessions, I focus on creating a safe space where clients feel at ease discussing their treatment experiences. This collaborative approach helps identify medication issues or side effects and determine if adjustments are necessary.
